Focus Precedes Success

When your attitude is right, and the power to be your best has been unleashed, it is then time to focus. There is a tremendous difference between having power-energy and having power-focus. I know many people who have a positive attitude and are nowhere close to tapping their potential. In virtually every situation such as this, the common error is a lack of focus.

Al Ries, author of Focus, says it like this:

“The sun is a powerful source of energy. Every hour the sun washes the earth with billions of kilowatts of energy. Yet with a hat and some sunscreen you can bathe in the light of the sun for hours at a time with few ill effects. A laser is a weak source of energy. A laser takes a few watts of energy and focuses them in a coherent stream of light. But with a laser, you can drill a hole in a diamond or wipe out a cancer. When we focus, we create the same effect. We create a powerful, laser-like ability to get anything done in our lives that we desire.”

That is what focusing is about; it must precede any action to produce significant results in that area. When we become unfocused, we lose power and the ability to create great results. We become like the sun, releasing our energy everywhere, in any and all areas of our lives, but never producing any significant results.

The key to gaining and maintaining the life you deserve is to focus on the areas that are most important to you. If you want to lose weight, you must be focused. If you want to create wealth, you must be focused. If you want to have a vital marriage, you must be focused. If you want to enjoy intimacy with God, you must be focused.

Focus is everything. Without focus, you will live a life of mediocrity.

As you concentrate your focus on those things that are important to you, your values, attitudes, choices, and affirmations begin to work together. Proof positive that the whole is always greater and more powerful than the sum of its parts.
