7 Principles For Priority Living

May.6

By Todd Duncan

Priority living occurs when your business and life work together. The patterns of execution that cause you to be a successful professional also cause you to be a successful father, mother, husband or wife. Priority living is a 360 degree approach to living on purpose and doing business on purpose.

Ultimately, by following these principles, you will do what’s necessary to earn more money in less time with less stress.

PRINCIPLE #1: Increase Your Passion!

Passion is what success is all about. You have to love your career. Be excited by the prospect of having a perfect day, of going home 100% fulfilled every day, of knowing that you can double your income and time off while living your dreams and your purpose.

PRINCIPLE #2: Reduce Your Procrastination! You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great.

Take action now. Don’t let fear stop you. Run to the customer that’s upset, the referral partner you feel you won’t get an appointment with, the business model you know you want to create, or the assistant you’ve thought about hiring.

When you have faith in the future, the knowledge and skills to do what you need to do, and momentum from repeating an action until it is a new habit, then there will be no need to procrastinate.

PRINCIPLE #3: Unlock Your Potential!

You have more potential than you think. As Norman Vincent Peale says, “Anybody can do just about anything with himself that he really wants to and makes up his mind to do. We are all capable of greater things than we realize.”

PRINCIPLE #4: Perfect Your Performance!

A practiced performance is an elevated performance. Professionals play like they practice. To perfect your performance, you must be in the habit of practicing it. The goal is to build your business so that you are doing the right things the right way.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said, “It takes less time to do a thing right than it does to explain why you did it wrong.” There are four things you can do right now to ensure that you are doing the right things the right way.

Master the art of observation.

Observe what’s working and what isn’t. Ask yourself, “Am I so busy being busy that I’m not being productive?”

Model excellence.

Forge relationships with the best in your business. Consider doing a site visit with someone whose business you admire.

Develop new strategies.

If a strategy isn’t working, don’t stick with it. Be willing to try something new.

PRINCIPLE #5: Power Up Your Perseverance!

Remember the train that made it to the top of the mountain by saying, “I think I can. I think I can.” Like the train, your success isn’t a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. But you must persevere, especially when you’re faced with your toughest challenges.

Don’t ever give up. Ninety-five percent of the people go 95% of the way and get only 5% of what’s available to them. You can be part of the small segment of professionals that goes 100% of the way and gets everything available to them.

PRINCIPLE #6: Make New Promises. Live Out Your Priorities!

Promises are critical to priority living in three important ways.

Promises eliminate confusion.

When you make a promise, it helps you focus. There is less difficulty in seeing what you should do and what your motivations are in doing it. Promise-making creates a more natural pull to the activities that you know will give you the life you desire.

Promises negate compromise.

It is hard to be out of sync with your promises for any length of time. The promise will always bring you back to the central behavior and action that is critical to success. You are more unwavering and dogmatic with your time and the way you go about making sure the important things get done.

Promises increase commitment.

When you make a promise that is values based, it is easier to have the commitment for that promise. The more you execute the promise, the more momentum you develop for other growth tasks.

Principle #7: Be purposeful in all that you do!

When you are purposeful in all that you do, life changes. There could be as many as 50 things in a day that you used to say yes to that you’ll now say no to. You may say yes to getting home at 5:00 even though you made a promise to be home at 6:00 where you used to come home at 7:00.

Never make a sales call again without asking the question, “What is the purpose of this call?” Never call on a client again without asking the question, “What is the purpose of this client meeting?” Never send a marketing piece out again without asking the question, “What is the purpose of this marketing piece?” Never engage in hiring somebody without asking the question, “What is the purpose in hiring this individual?”

Make every choice in what you do, when you do it, why you do it, and how you do it on purpose. This filter will make life and business complete.

You can have the perfect day. Start implementing the seven principles for priority living today. By doing so, your perfect day and your ability to earn more money in less time with less stress will arrive, quicker than you think.
